Akshaya Tritiya – 18 April 2018



The 18th of April 2018 marks the Hindu holy event of Akshaya Tritiya. Akshaya is a Sanskrit word. It means never failing…never diminishing. It is supposed to empower luck-fate. It enables success and prosperity. Tritiya is the 3rd lunar day of the Shukla Paksha. Shukla Paksha is a waxing-rising phase of the Earth’s moon. It is observed in the Hindu calendar month of Vaisakh. Akshaya Tritiya is considered one of the most auspicious days to start anything new. Akshaya Tritiya is also called Akha Teej.

Akshaya Tritiya is observed in India and Nepal. It is celebrated by Hindus and Jains. Akshaya Tritiya is marks the birthday of Lord Parshuram. Lord Parshuram is the 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is called Parshuram Jayanti. Jayanti means birthday or anniversary. But popularly Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi are worshiped on Akshaya Tritiya. Lakshmi means wealth and financial wellbeing.  She signifies abundance. She is the wife of Lord Vishnu.  

Akshaya Tritiya is regarded auspicious and lucky for new beginnings. It can be new work, a new journey, marriage, friendship, new endeavor etc. Many ladies go out shopping. Many buy gold. A lot of Jewelers come out with gold schemes. Many investors make investments. A few devotees observe Vrat. Vrat means fasting. They bathe early in the morning. Then they perform Puja, prayers.
